Note: please read this notice on DNSBL checking.

Malicious people often use open proxies to access a forum or any other web application. UseBB 1.0 has a builtin DNSBL powered blocking system to detect open proxies and IP ban them.

This system can be found in the ACP (DNSBL Bans). In order for the ystem to work, DNSBL servers must be assigned to the system. A few popular DNSBL servers are:
- list.dsbl.org
- http.dnsbl.sorbs.net
- socks.dnsbl.sorbs.net
- misc.dnsbl.sorbs.net
- opm.blitzed.org
- sbl.spamhaus.org
- dnsbl.ahbl.org

Each server is maintained seperately and may have different conditions and reasons to block IP addresses. Also, some blacklists are used for fighting spam and therefore also block many dynamic IP ranges. One should not use these blacklists in UseBB's DNSBL system.

You can also configure how many positive hits are needed to block an IP address. When this number is reached, the IP address is put in the IP ban list.

To retain certain IP's or hostnames from being blocked, you can put them in the whitelist.

This system has proved being very effective and already blocked almost 30 IP addresses since this forum is powered by 1.0-CVS.

What is your system configuration (server's operating system)? Please, do NOT reply to existing topics but open a new topic in the Help & Support forum. Also, one post ought to be enough instead of 3 ones in 2 minutes.

Please read the forum rules.
