UseBB Community

Install:database setup - username * repeatedly reloaded blank asking for name.

Will not accept the data I entered in cofig.php from mysql setup;

host:localhost
username:iactokyo_forum
password:********
Db name: iactokyo_bbs7

As the form needs constant refilling it takes a long time to keep resubmitting.
Anny ideas?

No need to enter anything in the config.php file, chmod file to 666 or 777(if able) and change file as it was, if you are using UseBB 0.8a.

Edit: at least I think thats the problem.

Can you try the CVS sources from http://usebb.sourceforge.net/cvs/ and check if the problem persists?

no such luck ... uploaded clean one and exactly the same.
I tried about 10 and useBB/ YaBB are the worst to set up.
pity cos its a nice board.

username for bbs and admin pasword fields empty again.

I guess the table prefix sets up automatically?

hehe- always simple isnt it ...

I thought it didnt like "admin" as my logon on so i changed it and it almost worked - said it was an unxpected error. When I reloaded and submitted again I used different password and it worked.
I was using the same password that i set up the database with - it included "1" and "!". Guess the last one is illegal.

Sigh of relief but I feel like Ive just done a double shift.

Forgot to add in the post, if unable to get it to work, you could always download UseBB again and copy/move config.php to your existing forum and delete the other just downloaded.

Could you post the error, if you can still reproduce it?

Seemingly there's something not entirely right with the installer. Will check it soon.

I admit UseBB isn't as easy to set up as other boards. The main problem is the use of config.php for all settings. We are working on this though, UseBB 2.0 will have a database powered registry for settings. So config.php will only be used for database settings.

It was all my fault for not reading instructions properly. I think the basic problem
was reusing my database password for UseBB login - something like " par1s!".
Exclamation mark being illegal character.
The error page didnt specify which field was a problem and was very annoying retyping all the data every time.
I think this was the only problem.
