The hot item is ofcourse UseBB 1.0, which has been in development since February 2006. A lot changed since 0.8, especially concerning new security features: DNSBL powered banning, registration logging, DNS based e-mail verification, etc. Also included in 1.0 are many smaller improvements (including updates to the default template) and bug fixes. We still only have a few ACP features (banning/word censor controls and newsletters) planned before 1.0 RC1 (release candidate 1) will be released, the release that will mean the end of more than two years and three months of rough development on the 1.0 codebase. Ofcourse, 1.0 will remain maintained and supported until 2.0 is released and PHP 4 has been replaced on the majority of web servers.
A few weeks ago, our website (www.usebb.net) was updated to contain only the latest uptodate information concerning UseBB. This means a few obsolete pages were removed and information about UseBB 2.0 was added at the most appropriate places. This was probably the last update until the new website for UseBB 2.0.
Talking about UseBB 2.0, in preparation of 2.0's development we will most likely move to a different hosting provider running PHP 5.1 (instead of the current 4.3). Eventually, this move is scheduled for July or August 2006. Also, do not forget we always welcome any comments, ideas, feature suggestions, ... for UseBB 2.0. Please see our community forums.
The last item I would like to recall is the importance of updating UseBB. It seems like many people run older versions. Although the amount of security problems with UseBB has always been very low, older versions may form a security threat to your forum or web server, not mentioning known and fixed bugs that will still exist at your forum. Therefore, please upgrade your forum to 0.8 if you still run an older version. Upgrading instructions are included in the docs/UPGRADE document in the download package.
That's all for now. I hope to see you on the forums.
