I have had several people who are viewing the forum for the first time and want to reply to a topic, but they don't have the slightest idea on how to do that. It isn't obvious to them that they need to click the register link at the top of the page to become a member which then will provide them with the "Post Reply" button. Personally I think the "Post Reply" link should be available all the time (and you can add the "New Topic" as well) and should redirect the user to the login page if they aren't currently logged in which should be sufficient for them to figure out that they need to register. -Mark

I agree that there should be some indication that you need to log in to reply/start a new topic.

Moving to Feature Requests.
In fact, most people like it without the buttons, there are no links that don't work (vB 2 used to be full of them). However it could be made a toggle setting on a per forum basis in 2.0.

How about just having a short sentence in place of the buttons, or something of the sort. From what I understand, having no reply button creates confusion with a large percentage of new forum users.

I prefer as it is myself, I wouldn't have it any other way, and its one big reason I chose UseBB.

I've seen on many other forums that "New Topic" button is available to guest/visitors as well. When you click on this button it will take you to login page which is nice and inviting for potential members. I don't see this on UseBB forum, is there a way to add this option? for example if you are not logged in you don't see this option in this page. http://www.usebb.net/community/forum-22.html
