Hello all, I'm French, webmaster of InformatiqueFrance.com (means: FrenchComputering.com). I discovered UseBB a few times ago and I am completely convinced by this project, at the same time ambitious and innovative. UseBB is not a simple copy. UseBB is far from known (and even completely unknown) in France. I had in the idea to launch my own project of bulletin board. But it is silly, because what I wish to carry out is very close to the UseBB spirit. Thus rather than create a new French-speaking project, I put forward the idea to create a French community around UseBB. The purpose of it would be to make known UseBB in France (and French-speaking country), to bring a French support, to carry out the future translations, to translate modifications, to create new modification… What do you think of this possibility? Cordially, Guillaume, from France.

We encourage anyone to create a localized community, translation, etc, so there is no problem at all. We could indeed use a bit promotion so your idea is very good. Already, thanks for your interest in UseBB.

Hello Dietrich Thanks for your quick reply ! I'm glad to see that you like the idea. Thus, I intend to create a French community for UseBB since you are not against such project. Indeed, which is interesting is to work together when that is necessary. Would you be ready to help me if I need with this project? I am myself developer, I have advanced knowledge in PHP, MySQL, XHTML, CSS and concepts of Javascript. Thus I think of being able to ensure a support in my own language. I can also carry out English translations towards French. On the other hand, I' absolutely not bilingual. (You see that ? )

@ Xtouch : I would be very interested to help you in the design of this community of French-speaking support on UseBB. Give me news of this project, I frankly want to make this new community and to show in the French-speaking world this new forum.
I speak French if you want.

No, it's a Hellenic (Greek) word. And every other word ending at -ous, -ist, -on most probably is a Greek word too. In a rare occassion it might be Latin. There are many other Greek words ported into many European languages, but of course I cannot know them all. The Latins got many words from us at the time they conquered Hellas, and after that the Hellenic language had been widely spread around the globe.. A bit off-topic, but nevermind. If all off-topic messages were like this..

I think the proportion of words of Latin origin is higher. I have learnt Latin for 8 years. :-) Oh, and the Latins were called Romans. :-P _______________ Long Live Rock n' Roll!

Of course. But do you know from which language were most latin words ported from? Let me give an example. You know the word "salary" where originates from? In ancient greek it existed a word "Άλας", which meant salt. The Romans, as you said, when they conquered Hellas they re-formatted this word as "sal". I don't know if I wrote it properly though.. In the ages where salt was a valuable good, it was used as a method of payment! Just like we now have Euros, Dollars etc. And from Salt, occured Salary. Salary actually means paying with salt! But nooe uses it like of course.. Just another note, the most common occasion you can find an exact word from Greece in another language, is when you talk about science, of any kind. History, Astronomy, Mathematics, Phenomenon and many other similar words are Greek.. I think there is a web page which lists all these words. I will google it. If I find it, I will post the link here!

Hello, I've found UseBB, and it's very fantastic : I never saw a simple and beautifull forum as easy as this one. I will be interested to participate in a french project support community. ;-)

The French community for UseBB is still in project. The Website is almost ready. During the development of the website, I have corrected some mistakes in the french translation of UseBB. I will submit soon the upgrade. Good job with the 1.0.5 of UseBB
