We run a Methamphetamine support forum. Due to the sensitive nature of the topic registration is not required to post… and you guest it, we get hammered by automated bots posting multiple links. Is there any way of disabling/filtering multiple link postings.

I'm sorry to say there is no spam protection currently in UseBB, or at least not in UseBB 1.

When I developed 0.x there was practically no issue with spambots for web applications and services. This ofcourse has changed in the past, but with the UseBB 2 plans any new functionality other than the originally planned ones are redirected to v2. So is spam protection.

Ofcourse we could make an exception, but I think it would cause more problems to people than it would solve, we have kept our current database schema since UseBB 0.5, and most people don't suffer from any spam with UseBB (because guest posting is mostly disabled). Also, time is rare and expensive in a small project such as UseBB, so that's why the decision was made to stop development of new features in UseBB 1 in favour of UseBB 2.

Someone could ofcourse always make a mod for some sort of spam protection, I'm thinking about a message queue for guest postings (eventually based on Akismet). In any case spam protection is a big issue we will take care of in UseBB 2.0.

We now have the "captch" verification code up and running. http://www.webinfo-net.com/blog/ so people can post as guests with out the spammers

Was this a mod you yourself created for usebb Gavin? Is it publicly available?
