Hello Dietrich,

This is a work [WIP] and it's getting to be a pain chasing all of the text attributes in the style.css :'(

http://forum-styles.com/usebb/index.php

I used to complain about not enough .css to control certain aspects of style-making. But I think that useBB is a little over the top with it's attempt to keep all things .css

There are far too many classes with their own text-handling options that are not practical for most themes.

Surely there could be Global Text-handling classes and not individual text-classes for far too many templates. ?

I also note that the Admin panels are affected by changes to the style.css, which increases the work-load of anyone wanting to create themes. The Admin templates should be independent of the theme style.css for that reason.

Don't know?, it's your sand-pit and you make the rules... But themes do contribute a hell of a lot to the popularity of forum software.

And I do feel that your style.css is far too complicated for the purpose it serves, ;)

I know the current stylesheet is far too complicated and not separated into a global and separate ones per component (I actually discussed about this on another forum yesterday). The current template also doesn't use all the possibilities of CSS, i.e. the possibility to assign multiple classes to an element. All this has resulted in one large styles.css.

UseBB 2 will avoid these problems, multiple classes will be used where possible, and the styles will be separated into a global one and separate ones per component (example: topic.css, forum.css, profile.css). This will not only make the stylesheets less big, but also make it a lot easier to edit and create a lower bandwidth usage.

So, I acknowledge the problem, but it won't get changed in UseBB 1 anymore.

Thanks for the acknowledgement, it's nice to know it's under control. :D

So I'll stop themeing ver 1.6 and will hang around until v2 is released. One other thing I noticed in the .css is the use of #000, #6699 and color: silver etc. Would it be impolite to ask you not to use the "New" style hex and stick with the old style #000000 etc, as it makes life a whole lot easier.

Off Topic:

I also noted in projections for v2 that you are going to add a spoiler. I've got some useful code that should easily adapt to useBB. And if you haven't already done it, I'd like to see if I can slot it into the editor functions. ?

#000 is the same as #000000, #369 the same as #336699, etc. I don't know why it would be difficult.

There is no such as thing as a "spoiler" being added to UseBB 2. :?

Spoiler / Hide, I was sure I read that somewhere ? Could be wrong. :(

And thanks for the lesson in HEX; I didn't make the suggestion lightly. ;)

I'm also becoming wary of some of the ego-driven attitude here also. :(

New BBCode elements should be added easily in v2, that's probably what was said. I don't see a reason to add a "spoiler" tag by default in a light bulletin board package. :)

I don't know exactly what you mean with ego-driven attitude. It's true I'm the only administrator/moderator/developer here. There's a whole story behind this, I have tried to assign other people in the past but eventually they all disappeared. There's also no need for moderators since there are mostly only about 10 posts per day and I visit this forum multiple times per day.

Right now, the project is in an intermediary state, UseBB 1 is completed and only bugfix releases are made, UseBB 2 is still in a planning/alpha phase. We are slowly walking away from v1, and once v2 is released v1 support will end within a few months time. I suggest anyone who wants to get involved in UseBB to subscribe to the mailing list where updates will appear and discussions held (as far as there are actively contributing people).

Ok, and thanks.

I just came here to make a few themes, add a few small mods and possibly help out generally as I gain more expertise on how UseBB functions etc.

This is something I have done for other forum software simply because I enjoy doing it. ;)

So, I need to subscribe to the mailing list and whatever else keeps one informed of development. :)
