Hi, I am planning to start something on my own. Firstly I will start with web developing, since this subject is intresting me much. Do not care about the threads that are made, they re not necessarly permantly. Focus on the design, and tell me how to improve it. Link: http://213.114.197.134/forums/index.phpThe link is available when my computer is on, almost always. When I put it up for public, it will be hosted at my dedicated server.

It's probably because he has a dynamic IP and his connection was reset.

There is an edit button but you can only edit your post within 10 minutes after posting, and no replies have been made yet.

If you're gonna run a server successfully you'll need a static IP from ISP or use... http://www.no-ip.com/services/managed_dns/free_dynamic_dns.html

Hehe About this "tweak" as you called it, any idea how to fix it? I've been trying to adjust the tables, but I just messed things up.

Adjust/tweak the width in the styles.css At or around line 165 #topmenu { clear: both; float: left; width: 688px; background-image: url(gfx/topmenu_bg.png); background-repeat: repeat-x; background-color: #E8E8E8; border: 1px solid #369; padding: 3px 0 3px 0; margin: 5px 0 0 0; }At or around line 714 (edit: before that number) #bottom { clear: both; float: left; width: 670px; padding: 3px 9px 3px 9px; background-image: url(gfx/topmenu_bg.png); background-repeat: repeat-x; background-color: #E8E8E8; border: 1px solid #369; font-style: normal; text-align: center; color: #333; }« Last edit by William on Tue Jan 08, 2008 9:11 pm. »

Looks nice, I like dark themes. Though, there's nothing changed in the design, only other colors used. I've changed the default layout, because i like plain and simple. Changed the index layout from all categories in blocks to 1 simple block. So, I only have 1 bar which says: Forum | Topics | Replies | Date&Time of last post
Maybe you should see it in action, and get some inspiration from it. http://doemaarfreak.pvanwiggen.nl/forum/

I think I've only seen one or two forums powered by UseBB that used a completely different theme written from scratch. All the "themes" people have been making for UseBB were nothing more than mild changes to the CSS and different images. It would be nice if people would take the time to write something new from scratch. The template system is fairly simple and limited but allows you to drastically change the look. It isn't that hard if you know HTML and CSS, all you need is time and patience.

@Dietrich, templating other ppls scripts isn't exactly a piece of cake. You need to know the coding logic used. To fully understand what the tags are about, you need to read and understand the logic of it. Therefor 99.9% of ppl using other ppls scripts, are changing the templates, instead of building them from scratch. It's true what you say that the templating system is simple, but still it's not logic to many. For example.. I want a bit more eye-candy. The Edit | Quote | Del in a users post.. That can't be done, unless you edit/hack the core source files.. it's a tag: {post_links} I want to build a template from scratch, but the templating system won't let me, unless i modify the core source files. Then maybe I have a nice theme, but i can't share it either... Anyways... I llike the forum, it runs smoothly, though there's my personal wishlist, but who doesn't... If interrested I might give a few of my wishes among the community. Very simple little addings that they are actually. An example of what I'm missing atm in the templating system: A tag for the robots meta-tag.. I've seen that Google indexed the complete FAQ... That isn't relevant information that needs to be found imho. So, for the FAQ's, i wanted the meta-tag: <meta name="robots" content="noindex, follow, noarchive" /> To make that happen, i need to edit the source files... Another option is to have it Disallowed in the robots.txt, but it's far better to have the pages tell the spiders what to do with the information found. Although... Keep up the good work.. UseBB is cool
