The project is a bit inactive for the time being, there's currently no development going on.
![]() I've been working at a local company as a trainee for the past three months, just finished last week. I'll probably continue working on v2 after I got my personal website finally complete. _______________ |

Hi Dietrich,
Thank you for the reply. Damn, that's a shame. I feel this is the best free forum script available. It's fast, easy to configure and does what it needs to do. I do feel that 2.0 will add a few important features (like private messaging) - but the important stuff is here. You should be asking for donations to keep the project running. A little "paid" help wouldn't hurt... _______________ Sal Collaziano Cadillac Owners of Australia |

I am sure there are more people willing to pay for UseBB, but money does not speed up a project.

Of course it does. If you ran out of time to work on a project, and had the money to pay someone else to continue on with it - how would that not speed up the project? :p

UseBB is an Open Source project, not a company. Even if this was the case, donations would never be enough to pay developers. And even then, finding developers with the right knowledge would be hard.

The project depends on time available, not amount of money available. You could donate as much as you would like, but that still won't change the fact that Dietrich still has a life and needs to take care of other things first. Making Dietrich richer won't change the project status any

With all due respect, yes it would. If enough funds were available through the members of this community, Dietrich could take this project on full time. Even if there were enough funds to have him work on the project part time - that would be better than nothing. And, worst case scenario, you could very easily have programers take the vision into completion. The latter is done by teenaged business owners and fortune 500 companies...

UseBB is not a company, neither is it a job of mine. It's a hobby. The goal is that people spend some of their free time in it.
Making it a company is a whole lot of work, especially in Belgium. By the time everything would be settled in order to be able to legally hire people, UseBB 2 could be completed. There would also nowhere be enough funds to maintain a company and hire people based on a few donations. I'm primarily a student and would like to keep it like that. I've been working on UseBB for nearly five years and some things have changed since then (other interests, little less time, etc). This doesn't mean that the project is dead but for the time being I guess there hasn't been enough time and interest to continue v2 development. UseBB 1.0.9 has been in CVS for some time and since there have been no new bug fixes since a few months, perhaps there should be a release in the near future (after I have checked a few other problems mentioned). 2.0 just is a big pile of work with a lot of thinking involved and just doesn't advance as fast as UseBB 1 (v2 is based on a lot of separate components which will speed up development later but take some time to be developed themselves). _______________ |

I guess you've never considered selling the project.. Right? I've been using message boards since the mid 80s - and even today - with all the possibilities - I find this particular one extremely interesting. Second to vBulletin, none other really interests me. I just feel it's a shame that such an interesting project is on hold indefinitely...

Just an update now... I've got a few things to complete for university college by Wednesday. Afterwards I will try to resolve the (seemingly) current problems with 1.0.8 on MySQL 5.1 and release 1.0.9.
After this it will be time to check a few things out for 2.0, see how I can get things going again. I have refrained from posting announcements for all those months since I have done so in the past but often could not keep up with the promises being made. _______________ |

Actually, there might be some out there. I study PHP, and once I make my own flat file BBS, I might just might help develop for UseBB. May fave is MyBB, but I like UseBB alot! It seems to fit the community that I am going to soon aim for! |

New versions come out when they come out and there are no questions about this. That's why I like Open Source scripts

I like UseBB very much. It's not extremely rich in features, but seems to do the essential forum operations very well. Good job to the developers!
