Just tried registering a second account on my new UseBB installation. Once I filled out all the forms and clicked Register I got this:

Quote
UseBB General Error

An error was encountered. We apologize for any inconvenience.

In file sources/functions.php on line 1188:

E_USER_ERROR - Unable to send e-mail!

This error should probably not have occured, so please report it to the webmaster. Thank you for your help.

If you are the webmaster of this board and you believe this is a bug, please send a bug report.

So I went into the Admin Panel and tried manually activiating the account and got the error again.

Can anyone shed some light on this? :)

Just to clear a few things up, I am hosted by blueHost, possibly one of the best Web Hosts in the world. I have just finished a live support chat with their Email technician who has confirmed that their mail() function has not "malfunctioned" since they installed it. I would also like to point out that I have several other Bulletin board's installed on my hosting account (phpBB, SMF, and vBulletin)...NONE of those get this error.

So considering that other forum softwares do not get this problem and the mail() function is working properly...what do you suggest now? If this isn't a UseBB error as you appear to be adamant about...what is it?

Much to my surprise reuploading the software files worked.

I am going to take this opportunity to express my astonishment at two things. Firstly, the fact that you have to upload a forum software twice to make it work is truly outstanding. I have never in all my years of using bulletin boards and php applications had to upload the software anything twice to make it work.

Secondly, I am truly shocked at the response I got to my inital post here at the support forum. A pleasent "Welcome to the UseBB support forum. Your problem is this...is can possibly be solved by doing this..." would have sufficed, but rather I get a semi-sarcastic "Use Search and you would have found it"...as if to suggest I was an idiot.

I am not pleased with my usage of this software so far. It significantly lacks features and with support such as this you can almost guarantee I will not be spreading any good words about it.

There was most likely a problem with either your connection or your web host when you were uploading the files. Code in a script just doesn't suddenly 'change' each time you upload it. Just because it never happened to you before, doesn't mean it's not something that does happen to others or even something that happens at all.

Surely, you can understand how repetitive that gets. In all honesty, I'm not here to baby you. Now, if you had posted that you searched around and could not locate a fix, then yes, I may of responded in a nicer manner. However, from your initial post, it doesn't even appear that you took the initiative to find a fix yourself. I was also just stating that a quick search would of assisted. Either way, if you portrayed my initial reply as "semi-sarcastic" that is fine. I certainly can't change the way you perceive things said on the Internet.

In regards to UseBB itself, that is fine if you feel it lacks features. I am sure you read the features page to see what UseBB came packaged with before deciding that it was worth testing out or not.

Anyway, I'm glad it fixed the issue.

A few things to note (in fact mostly quoting Gaia):

- searching before you post is mandatory as described in the sticky topic;
- the fact you had to upload a file/files twice has nothing to do with UseBB, this is an error on your or you host's part (FTP client/server most likely);
- nobody is obliged to use UseBB, if you can live with its limitations you are free to use it, if not you should probably look at other forum packages.
