Many people have been translating UseBB lately, and submitted their translation to the modifications tracker. Since the mods tracker wasn't actually meant to hold translations (but there wasn't any other option) I am going to make a translation download system on usebb.sourceforge.net soon, where people will be able to upload their translation and it will be added to the project filelist after approval.

This also means that only English and Dutch will be packed in future releases of UseBB. Those are the only two translations that are always up-to-date.

The number of downloads will be difficult to show since the files will be in the project filelist at SourceForge.net (which normally holds an updated download count, but SF.net has temporarily disabled their stats rendering). For the rest it should indeed show the version number, date of update, translator, etc...

Whats wrong with my language? Packed into 0.3.2, got dismissed in 0.4? the only reason 0.4german came 1(!) hr later than the release was, because nobody let me know 0.4 was coming right on this day.

I'm sorry for that but it would be difficult because I often don't announce when a new version will be released, especially not in this development stage UseBB is in. There's no real planning for UseBB right now. I keep adding features until 1.0 and in the mean time (often quickly) perform releases.

Dutch is next to English the only language which is always completely up-to-date (updated by myself). The reason German was available in UseBB 0.3.2 is that no new language strings have been introduced since 0.3, so that there was time to write the German translation. I already put the updated German translation in CVS for UseBB 0.4.1, but I doubt it if an (updated or not) German or any other translation will be put directly in the package.

I think, especially for the future, this is a system that has to be taken in service, because keeping all languages up-to-date in UseBB would be very time consuming after all, and making the package much heavier.

I hope you understand my opinion.

I agree with PC_Freak .. it is a good policy to keep the extras with the extras. Although they should be made available as easy as eating a peanut .. ;)

And I thought the reason that German was filed into 0.3.2 was because you asked me.....

Its not about German after all, the thing is - with this project growing - your decisions will affect more and more people working here and - for my part - think its unfair to say that the only up2date files are yours without even giving the chance to send my zip file.

So I thought German would be included in the next version or at least a mail that it would not, remember I was even discussing on icq with you at the release timepoint.

I accept that your are the maintainer and the creator, but I am kind of disappointed about your action.

My idea was to include translations from team members in UseBB, but I realize now that this will be very difficult to maintain. English and Dutch are maintained in real time (not sure if Dutch will stay in there either IF other developer join the team), while other translations can't be updated in real time (I don't understand German, and other developers in the future probably won't either). We can send a notice about a week in advance before a release to all maintainers of the translations, but this will cause a delay (no changes can be committed in that week), and still then not everybody might have had the time to update his/her translation within that week.

My apologies Jay, it was wrong of me to first accept other translations in the package, I haven't thought enough about the consequences that will happen in the future.

Btw, in the future, we will discuss other great decisions first at the forum to avoid problems like this. We can only learn from our mistakes.
