I'm thinking of making a modders team for people which regurarly release new (versions of) modifications for UseBB. Perhaps also template creators will be added to the "modding team".

The following criteria can be used to obtain a place in the modding team:
- you must release at least 3 new modifications/template packages or new versions of it in a time period of max 6 months.
- the mods and/or templates need to be placed at the appropriate trackers at sourceforge.net.
- you have to announce your mod/template in this forum (and you need to be a forum member, ofcource).
You will be removed from the team when one of these criteria is missing.

When added to the modding team, members can get a hidden and private forum and a special rank.

Is this a good idea? Any suggestions?

Sounds good, but I also have an idea. The modding team checks new mods for security bugs & others and if there are none the mod gets a rating (a(+),b(+),c(+),d(+)) , if the rating is lower than c the mod is removed.

That would be difficult to set up I think. Problem is: I'm not going to install any mods or addition templates over here (for various reasons) so that system should be set up manually.

I agree but it would be handy.

First of all, it's not our task to check every mod for security issues, as they can still occur after a forum update even when the mod was safe before. Second, we should not allow users to release mods with security issues in it.

Suppose my first idea is the best choice and doesn't take many administration.

The system won't be integrated before release 1.0, so any additional comments are still welcome. ;)

If I might make a suggestion, from personal experience, I would offer the suggestion to have all "modifications" off-site from the "official website". That way, when security issues arises (and at some point, they will) it will do good for Public Relations (PR) to have your "official" status disassociated with any 3rd-party MODifications.

Obviously, any security breaches found within the Core-Code you'll have to suffer the community wrath of... but by have your MODifications at a 3-rd Party (Non-Official) site, you can distance yourself from bad Public Relations caused by security breaches in MOD's.

PC_Freak stated, "it's not our task to check every mod for security issues", this would be hard to take a firm stance on if you happen to be releasing MOD's from the "official website" the first time a security breach is found within a third-party MOD that caused thousands of your members to be hacked, I think those people would be seeing the statement in a different way.

Lastly, I'm not too sure that putting Template Developers within the same "Team" as MOD Developers will be a good idea.

Anyway, best of luck with the project!
