Well SMF and UseBB is quite different. UseBB are moe for small and mediumsized communitys wich dosen't need this overflow of features but a basic, nice, easy to use great forum software

SMF is rather big and overwhelming for most people. Of course you're asking a strange question cause this is the UseBB forum so most people here will answer UseBB.

I don't neccesarily think so - the answers I get are quite usefull in highlighting each program's strengths. (I ask the same question on multiple support sites). I do think that I should at least try out each product as much as I can.
I am also looking at YaBB ... any experience people? Thanx, _Hartz |

YaBB is closed for developement so... well i don't believe in that product at the moment. There is alot of different boards out there in the wild bt recommendations for free software would be : UseBB, SMF, MercuryBoard (wonder if people still develop this thing).. hmm i've tested so many but i can't really say wich is the best. it's better if you say what kind of features you'd like on your site

YaBB itself still exists, YaBB SE does not actually exist anymore though. It has been renamed into SMF because YaBB SE had a bad name due to the slow and insecure Perl board YaBB.
To clear stuff up: - YaBB: Perl and still in development - YaBB SE: PHP/MySQL but renamed to SMF - SMF: currently active in development, IMO the best feature-rich board. Of course I'm not saying you should use SMF if you don't require all its features. ![]() |

SMF is a great engine, cool community, but it takes hours to set up properly. Very clean and feature-rich though, also heard that it's secure & stable.

Well every forum software has had security issues, the more popular the more and faster they are found...

But it was way funny how easy it was to get into phpBB. All you need is Firefox and Notepad. ![]() _______________ Long Live Rock n' Roll! |

Hmm well phpBB never developed with E_ALL error reporting, so "initialize" variables with $pm .= 'something' isn't really what can be called "secure". It's a bit their own fault, but on the other hand some issues were hard to find and to exploit. Also not every issue they fixed in their bugfix releases was a security hole that was exploitable.
