No, there will be no 1.99 this summer due to the many work that needs to be done: http://dmoerman.be/busy-times
1.99 isn't a fully usable forum package (it will also not have a layout) so don't excpect to install and use 1.99 on a live website. The purpose of 1.99 is to do audits of the code and tests on different systems. _______________ |

Regardless of how many people are helping to code UseBB 2.0, Dietrich would still be the project leader, and he would still have to have the time to look over everything, make sure the code is done to standard, etc. If he doesn't have the time, adding more people to the project probably isn't going to help any.
I'm sure Dietrich will request more developers once he feels the time is right. _______________ |

First, the system analysis isn't done yet. This means there is no possibility of writing any code since I don't know what all the classes, methods will be, what frameworks we will use (previously eZ Components was chosen but this may change), ... for more info see the mailing list. I bet you haven't even looked at (or found) it.
Second, I don't accept anyone anymore that I don't know. I have assigned numerous people for various tasks over the past years, and 0 (none) have remained, some even never started what they promised to do. In the future I only assign people that have done valuable contributions and are a long-time member of the community. With contributions I mean resources made to the community (UseBB 1: mods, templates, ACP modules, etc). Joining here and asking to get developer access doesn't work, in the contrary. I have seen enough people asking me to be part of the team while all they wanted was fame. Those people seldom do what they should do. Or some others join, make some contributions and then you never see or hear them again. Third, I think some are very underestimating the level of difficulty of UseBB 2. This isn't just a bunch of PHP code with less organization as UseBB 1. See the roadmap. UseBB 2 is object-oriented, which means you must know how to design and implement OO systems. Currently, I don't know of any actively developed OO PHP forum system (except for WBB 3 which is beta and commercial software). Next to the OOP part, UseBB 2 uses many XML which means you must know how to use it properly, write schemas and eventually XSL stylesheets. Next to this are ofcourse the other obvious things, XHTML, CSS, Javascript, SQL, knowledge of some operating systems (Windows, Linux, eventually BSD), browsers, etc. If you think this is all, don't forget Subversion (basics, working with code branches, etc) since all UseBB 2 code will be in a repository as UseBB 1 has been in CVS since 3.5 years. UseBB 2 is the answer to the weak codebase of UseBB 1, so I don't accept bad designs or code. To conclude: I will not ask for any developers, if one happens to join and does great contributions with very decent code (code you wrote yourself, that is) he/she will sooner or later hear anything from me. If none does, I will remain the single developer. _______________ « Last edit by Dietrich on Sat May 19, 2007 6:41 pm. » |

Since UseBB 1 is an entirely different system I don't decide on any expertise based on resources for this.
I will close this topic now, it has no use in the first place. Everything you have asked can already be found on the forum or the mailing list, if only you take the time to search for it which you obviously don't. _______________ |
